Description
Since april 2004 the new town picture gallery has been opened in a large room of the town hall. It is the most important of Valle Tanaro and included 150 pictures of Italian and foreign painters.
The picture gallery is dedicated to the famous cartoonist, caricaturist and watercolorist Eugenio Colmo, called Golia. It contains many important works of art of Golia and of his brother, the well-known ladscapist Giovanni Colmo, both of Turin, but adoptive of Garessio.
Among the large numger of artist we have to remember: R.W. West, I. Diey (English painters of the 19th century), K. Hegedusic, R. De Lyques, Boffa, Chicca, Chieco, I Decalage, Fico, Fogliati, Gabbiani, Gagino, M. Giugiaro (well-known ladscapist of Garessio and father of the famous designer Giorgietto Giugiaro), Lattanzi, M. Lattes, Morscio, T. Michelotti, Paulucci, Reggino, Rosaldo, Sabatini, and a lot of other local painters.
There is also a 17th century altarpiece with a Madonna between two bishops and the damned souls, maybe of Moncalvo school.
This Artistic treasure is due to artist's donation, bequests of public corporation and contests oftourism office since 1960.
